A recent survey released on Wednesday revealed that business enterprises are increasingly switching, or planning to switch, to Microsoft’s new avatar in the operating system domain, Windows 7.
The survey, carried out by the analyst firm Dimensional Research for IT-systems management outfit KACE (which has just been purchased by Dell), included more than 900 IT administrators from across the globe.
As many as 87 percent of them surveyed were looking ahead to deploy Windows 7 in their organisations in the near future, which is far better than 47 percent for Vista when a similar survey was conducted for the OS after nine months of its launch.
Almost half of the businesses questioned would deploy the operating system before the release of the first service pack, which is expected sometime in this summer, whereas more than half said they would upgrade to the new OS by the end of this year.
Diane Hagglund, a senior analyst with Dimensional Research, asserted that Windows Vista is becoming outdated and more costly to support, and Windows XP getting seemingly irrelevant, IT administrators are inclining to embrace Windows 7.
“Based on previous research, Windows 7 deployments are dramatically ahead of planned Vista deployments at a similar stage in the OS lifecycle with most respondents skipping Vista altogether”, Hagglund said.
